BIBLE VERSE: ”stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.” —1 Samuel 9:27
BIBLE THOUGHT: There are times when a God’s people will treat their reading of the Word of God as if they were going thru a drive-thru window at Burger King. Hungry and in a hurry. Thats why they call it “fast food.” And its as if someone committed a major crime if , when we drive off and we find out (after we get home) that they got the order wrong! We want fast food, fast service, and we want it all right now!
Is the reading of Gods Word like that for you sometimes? You’re hungry for the Word, but your in a hurry. So grab the Bible open it and just start reading. We will grab a “number 1 to go” which is usually a chapter out of the book of Psalms because it is easy and convenient, sometimes we may “supersize” and read two chapters. And then we drive off to take care of the things we need to do for the day. Feeling not quite satisfied but ”it will do.” As if the order was all wrong……you know, it was not quite what you wanted but just don’t have time to go back.
Samuel (in the verse above) instructed Saul to just stand still, let me show you something out of God’s Word. What a lesson for us! While there is, some, protein in a “number one with a coke”, it is mostly fat……bad fat. God wants us to get away from the “fast food” way of reading His Word. Psalm 46:10 tells us, ” Be still, and know that I am God ”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Before Jesus fed the five thousand, he made them sit down first. (John 6:10) Sit down and enjoy the reading of God’s Word today.
